Franciscan Day of Service shows best of Madonna

Members of the Madonna community joined forces for the first annual Franciscan Day of Service on a sunny Saturday, October 8. Projects included:
* Interior and exterior cleanup at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Detroit
* Interior and exterior cleanup at St. Anne's Church in Detroit
* Interior sorting/cleanup at Zaman International in Dearborn
* Woodlands cleanup and tulip-planting at Madonna University in Livonia

At the end of the day, Service Learning Director Djennin Casab said, "Our first Franciscan Day of Service was a day when students, faculty, and staff got together with one goal in mind: to serve our local communities representing the Madonna community by living our Franciscan values. On that day, peace and justice, respect for the dignity of all people, and reverence for creation were not lost, abstract concepts--they came to life as we served those in need. We cleaned garbage from the woods, cleaned furniture, sorted coats, cut lawns, winterized vegetable patches, and brought a smile to others."

Following their day of service, students wrote down their reflections, and Marian Gonsior constructed the following poem from their comments.
